In a recent judicial decision, the future of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Venezuelan nationals in the United States has taken a significant turn. If you are a TPS beneficiary or seeking information on how this ruling may affect you, we invite you to read this update.

What Happened?

On March 31, 2025, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California issued a court order postponing the termination of the 2023 TPS designation for Venezuela. This decision also delays the annulment of the TPS extension for Venezuelans, which was previously issued on January 17, 2025.

The case in question, National TPS Alliance v. Kristi Noem, No. 3:25-cv-01766, changes the timeline for TPS termination for Venezuelans, granting more time and security to those under this status.

What Does This Mean for You?

Thanks to this court order, TPS for Venezuelan citizens remains in effect under the Federal Register notice issued on January 17, 2025. However, it is important to note that this measure is temporary, and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) may take further legal action in the future, potentially leading to new changes in TPS policies.

Staying informed about official updates and being prepared for any potential adjustments to TPS policies is crucial.

Re-Registration Period: Don’t Delay Your Application!

If you are currently a TPS beneficiary, you must complete your re-registration between January 17, 2025, and September 10, 2025. It is essential not to delay this process—failing to re-register on time may result in interruptions to your Employment Authorization Document (EAD), affecting your ability to work legally in the U.S.

Missing this deadline could cause complications in maintaining your legal status and employment eligibility in the country.
